One month after a mass killing left 20 elementary school children dead, a state lawmaker is urging gun owners to bring their weapons to the state Capitol.
Rep. Kelly Townsend, a Republican from Phoenix, sent out an email urging gun owners to show up with their firearms next month for a 2nd Amendment rally at the state Legislature.
“Bring long guns and unloaded (bring magazines, but keep in pocket-THIS WAY NO ACCIDENTS!) sidearms, of course…,” Townsend said in an email.
Townsend, who is the founder of a local Tea Party group, then tells her readers how to dress, saying, “COME IN CIVVIES, no uniform,s (sic) or tac-gear!”
She continued by saying, “this is not a militia rally, so we hope to generate from all firearms enthusiasts, such as hunters, gun club members and other sports/outdoors people!”
Last month a lone gunman killed 26 people at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. before killing himself. Since then, President Barack Obama has vowed to push for gun control measures.
The pro-gun rally is scheduled for 12-2 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Arizona State Capitol.
